Formed in January 2002, Swing Rosie developed their signature sound rehearsing in a Riverdale basement apartment before hitting the stage with their live show. In their first six months the girls sang in countless variety shows and fundraisers along side comedians, singing dogs and sword swallowers. Singing the best of the 30’s & 40’s swing era with passion, style and humour, audiences were so captivated by
Kira Callahan,
Chantelle Wilson and
Shannon Butcher that Swing Rosie was soon packing the house at clubs, jazz festivals and theatres across Ontario. Included amongst the Rosies' favourite performances are opening Jazz.FM91.1’s 2006 nationally broadcast Jazz Lives concert, singing at the critically acclaimed All Canadian Jazz Festival and headlining the 60th anniversary celebration of VE Day at the Ricoh Coliseum. They've been honoured to share the stage with such jazz luminaries as Guido Basso, Molly Johnson and Jeff Healey.
Swing Rosie’s 2005 debut recording Sing Cool, Swing Hot was hugely successful by indie jazz standards. Played across Canada on jazz and mixed format stations, Sing Cool, Swing Hot hit #1 on the National College Jazz Charts and stayed at #1 for weeks on several radio stations. Two years later, JAZZ.FM91.1, CBC Radio and AM740 continue to give regular airplay to the Rosies’ popular album. Thanks to the internet, their CD has traveled across the globe into homes and online radio playlists in Europe, Japan, Australia and the US. Swing Rosie held their farewell dance party on November 15th, 2007 at the Lula Lounge in Toronto. The walls were ringing with the Rosies’ three-part harmony, the band’s killer swing and the cheers of the sold out crowd!
Thank you to all our friends in the jazz community and to our extraordinary fans that helped make our Swing Rosie journey such a blast!
Big Rosie Love,
Kira, Chantelle, Shannon
