Toronto jazz singer Kira Callahan is the founder of Swing Rosie. Missing the creativity and camaraderie she experienced with the Humber College vocal jazz ensemble, she wondered what would happen if she started a vocal group herself. Who could’ve predicted the amazing adventures in store! Pairing up with two talented musical strangers who became partners and friends has been the experience of a lifetime. Immense love and thanks to Chantelle Wilson and Shannon Butcher!
Over the years, Kira has performed as a solo artist on stages from Toronto to Paris. Her CD Kira Callahan Live at Glenn Gould Studio has been played on CBC Radio, JAZZ.FM91 and CIUT 89.5.
Post Swing Rosie, watch for The Kira Callahan Quartet appearing around town performing the best of classic jazz. Kira is also working on recordings with two favourite collaborators: A wonderfully intimate duo CD entitled The Real Thing Begins with guitarist Nathan Hiltz and a hot swinging ‘L’il Big Band’ septet recording with Anthony Terpstra (founder of the Starlight Orchestra). Songwriting is a growing talent of Kira’s – she penned Swing Rosie’s theme song which is the opening track on Sing Cool, Swing Hot, and has original tunes on both upcoming CDs.
